It was 2017 when the sauce was born and I was trying to get my feet in the food business under the food and catering business I created, Byrd Brayns. Most Saturdays of the month, I prepared pre-ordered weekend lunchboxes. For those that ordered with me really knew I was gifted with the pot and grill. Long story short, one day I had a barber ask me to make egg rolls and I was hesitant at first, but I did it anyway. I knew that I had to serve those egg rolls with a bussin’ azz sauce. Yes, it would’ve been easier to go the grocery store and pick something off the shelf, but I was passionate about creating something that could not be found on the shelf. And of course, I pulled it off. Not only did people rave and kept talking to me about the egg rolls, but they also expressed how much they enjoyed the sauces that complimented them. I would make the sauces from time to time and send to friends and family who were amazed by the flavor and taste. They praised how well the sauce complimented their rice, chicken and ribs. It wasn’t until a friend tried it and told me – this needs to be in the store.

The Low Country refers to an area along the South Carolina coast whose culture and cuisine was greatly influenced by decedents of West and Central Africa, known as the Gullah Geechee. Slavery redefined the importance of family (love), strength (unity), land/water (nourishment), and preservation (life).
